The rangie-L mailing list

The rangie-l mailing list is focused on all Range Rovers, from the earliest 2-doors right up to the latest models.

This list has been set up for the exchange of information about maintenance, modifications and trail reports. This list is free and open to anyone that wishes to read or contribute. Anyone who owns a Range Rover, or is interested in them, is welcome here.

The mailing list is entirely automated and is provided courtesy of bigyellowdesign.com - for all your database design, web design and hosting needs.

The list holds strong links with this site, the Range Rover Knowledge Base, and many of your questions may be answered here already. If you have an article which you can share, then please click on Articles | Submit.

List policies

  • Privacy - rangie.com will never sell or pass on your email address or other personal details. However, you should be aware that while the mailing list archives are members only, other members of the list will be able to see your email address if you post a message to the list.
  • Spam - In an attempt to minimise the amount of unsolicited bulk email sent to the list, only list members can post messages to the group.
  • Commercial posts - We are aware that there is a large amount of knowledge and experience in the commercial sector and we would be foolish to exclude this. We made the decision that we would allow limited commercial content when it is in response to a question from another list member. However, unsolicited commercial posts are not allowed. If you feel that a list member is making inappropriate submissions, please do not take issue on-list, this invariably causes arguments. Instead, please contact one of the administrators via owner-rangie-L@bigyellowdesign.com
  • Appropriate language - We're not intending to censor the list, but list members should be aware that there are members of the list who are still legally minors and therefore language and subject matter should be moderated appropriately.
  • Noteworthy emails - rangie.com reserve the right to publish any noteworthy postings as articles in the knowledge base - you will be credited as author, and copyright will remain yours.
  • Auto-responders - Many people set auto-responders (also known as out-of-office replies) when they are away. When configured properly, these will not send auto-replies to the list. However, some poorly configured auto-responders can wreak havoc by sending a mail to the list in reply to another mail, then replying to their own mail etc. If this happens, the guilty party will be unsubscribed as soon as possible. Please remember to check your settings before you go!
  • Off-topic posts - While the intention is that the majority of the content will be range rover based, this is meant to be a community of range rover enthusiasts, rather than a forum where only range rover content is allowed. To allow people who don't want to read off-topic posts to filter them out, it is common courtesy in forums like this to use the letters 'OT' in the subject line of the email to signify an off-topic post. The only topics we ask people to avoid are politics and religion, simply because they have such potential to offend people even when that was not the intention.
  • Courtesy - There will always be a fair amount of good-natured fun to be had on a list like this, however we will NOT tolerate any 'flaming' or anything similar. We operate a single warning system, after that you will be removed from the list. So far, we have not had to even issue a warning, let's keep it that way!
    Tips and common problems

  • My message is bounced back with the message "Post by non-member to a members-only list" - Only subscribed members can post to the list. Anyone can join the list, please follow the instructions above. If you believe you are already subscribed, your message may have been rejected because you are subscribed from one address but are posting from a different one. This is common if you have different addresses at home and work. To have your message accepted, please post from an address which is subscribed. If you wish to be able to post from more than one address, you will need to subscribe each address separately. If you do not wish to receive emails to each of these addresses, but still wish to be able to post from them (for example, you may not be allowed to read list mails at work, but still wish to be able to send a question to the list and then read the responses at home) then you can subscribe the extra addresses and then set them to nomail which will prevent them receiving emails - follow the link above for instructions.
Please note, the rangie.com signup which allows you to submit content to the site and subscribe to the newsletter is completely independent from the mailing list which is provided by our sponsors bigyellowdesign.com. If you are a rangie.com member, you will still not be able to post messages to the list unless you subscribe to the list using the links above.
  • My message is bounced back with the message "Message body is too big" - There is a maximum message size limit of 15kb. This is primarily aimed at preventing users posting attachments to the list, however it also acts to prevent users from posting a copy of the 'digest' mode without trimming unnecessary text. Please trim any unnecessary text/attachments from your posting and resend. If your mail exceeds that size and cannot be trimmed down any further, then please split your message across two or more emails.
  • How do I stop the list emails? - You will only be receiving these emails if you have subscribed to the service. To unsubscribe, you will need to visit the list admin interface and follow the instructions. If you receive the error "rangie-L has no subscribed addr" then you are trying to unsubscribe an address which is not subscribed. However, if you are still receiving emails then you must be subscribed using a different address which is delivering to the same mailbox. If you have tried everything and are still having problems, then please contact the list owner at owner-Rangie-L@bigyellowdesign.com
